How to Choose the Perfect Birthday Cake Flavour

From classic vanilla to indulgent caramel — how to pick a flavour everyone at the party will love.

Choosing a birthday cake flavour can feel surprisingly tricky. The good news: there's no wrong answer. The right cake is the one your guest of honour will love most, with enough crowd-appeal to keep the rest of the party happy too.

Start with the birthday person. Are they a chocoholic? Go chocolate fudge with a caramel filling. Do they love something light and fresh? Try lemon butter or strawberry. For kids, funfetti sprinkle cake is almost always a hit.

Then think about the crowd. A mix of vanilla butter cake with chocolate buttercream is the most universally loved combination we make — it pleases nearly everyone. Marble cake (vanilla and chocolate together) is another safe bet for mixed groups.

Don't forget the filling. A great filling transforms a cake. Our Oreo, caramel and strawberry fillings work beautifully with most of our 12 flavours. If you can't decide, ask us — we've made hundreds of cakes and we love helping you choose.

Finally, consider the season. Lighter cakes (lemon, strawberry) shine in spring and summer. Richer cakes (chocolate fudge, caramel, coffee) hit the spot in cooler months. Whatever you choose, we'll bake it fresh for your date.

Ordering a Custom Cake in Tasmania — What to Know

A simple guide to ordering a custom celebration cake in Tasmania, from lead times to design ideas.

Ordering a custom cake in Tasmania is easier than you think — but a little planning goes a long way. Here's what we wish every first-time customer knew before sending that first message.

Lead time matters. For a standard cake, 5–7 days notice is ideal. For a detailed custom design — tiered cake, intricate toppers or unique colour work — give us 2–3 weeks if you can. Last minute? Still ask. We sometimes have a slot.

Bring inspiration. Photos help us understand the look you want, even if you can't describe it. Pinterest, Instagram or a quick Google Image is perfect. We'll recreate the feel in our own homemade style.

Know your numbers. Tell us how many servings you need. A 6" cake serves around 8–10 people; a 9" round serves 20–25; tiered cakes start from 30+ servings. We'll suggest the right size based on your headcount.

Pickup vs delivery. We're a Tasmania-based home bakery, so local pickup is free. For delivery, share your suburb and we'll quote a delivery fee. Cakes travel best in a cool car — we'll give you handling tips when you collect.

And one last thing — message us. WhatsApp is the easiest way to chat about your order. You'll be talking directly to the baker, not a call centre.

Homemade Potato Samosas — Perfect for Any Gathering

Why traditional potato samosas are the easiest crowd-pleaser to add to your next event in Tasmania.

If you're catering an event in Tasmania and looking for a savoury snack that always disappears first, homemade potato samosas are it. Crispy, golden, packed with flavour — and easy to eat with one hand while you mingle.

Our samosas are hand-folded with a traditional spiced potato filling, then freshly fried until golden. They're vegetarian-friendly (so they suit nearly everyone), they hold their crunch beautifully on a platter, and they pair with just about any chutney or dipping sauce.

How many should you order? A good rule of thumb is 3–4 samosas per person if they're the main savoury option, or 2 per person if you have other snacks. Our party packs come in 20, 50 and 100, so you can scale up easily.

Want to reheat for a later event? Keep them in the fridge and pop them in a 180°C oven for 6–8 minutes — they crisp up like they were just made. Avoid the microwave; it softens the pastry.

Birthday party, work function, baby shower, family gathering — samosas just work. Message us with your date and headcount, and we'll have a fresh batch ready for pickup.
